GOAL visits the Schweizerischer Verband der Verleger der Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften
On 24 January, two members of our project team had the opportunity to present and discuss the aims of the project and the development of (green) Open Access in Switzerland with the directorate of the Schweizerischer Verband der Verleger der Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften (Swiss Association of Publishers in the Humanities and Social Sciences).
The presentation of GOAL’s objectives was followed by a lively discussion. Publishers and academic libraries operate in different parts of the same field, but it became clear that in many cases our views and concerns are more aligned than might first appear; maintaining high quality standards is a paramount concern, we all welcome stable and predictable workflows that allow us to plan, and we see long-term sustainability and access to information as key components of a healthy ecosystem. Furthermore, both sides welcome constructive dialogue as a fruitful way to envisage beneficial solutions.
Green open access can be a suitable solution to these (and other) concerns and build a basis for further development.
